Governor of Sokoto State and a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party , Aminu Tambuwal , on Wednesday , visited the North – East as part of his nationwide consultations .
Tambuwal , according to a statement , told the PDP delegates of Borno and Yobe states that a lasting solution to the insurgency menace in the region would be a top priority of his government if he was elected president .
The governor, who expressed delight at the welcome he received from the delegates in Maiduguri , Borno State , said , “ I am concerned about the security situation in the entire North -East . I ’ m concerned with the sufferings of the good people of this region as a result of insurgency and the untold hardship this has brought on the region .
“ I want to assure you that , if given the opportunity to lead this nation as president , my government will do everything necessary to address the security challenges of this zone in a responsible and effective manner. As Speaker , House of Representatives , we extended every support to this region in an attempt to assuage the pains and injuries inflicted by acts of insurgency to the people of this zone .
Tambuwal bemoaned the mass deaths by Boko Haram , adding that the security architecture of the country would be “rejigged ” to ensure effectiveness in the fight against terrorism and unfortunate bloodletting in the North – East and the rest of the country.
“ Nigeria ’ s security architecture and the strategies currently adopted and deployed for national security need a comprehensive overhaul . It is not working . The needless waste of life everywhere is unacceptable . The number and frequency of deaths are undermining our humanity .
“ This must not be allowed to continue. Without peace, there won ’ t be any meaningful development. My administration will recruit more men into the armed forces , especially the youth of the region , to assist in tackling the problem in the region , ” the presidential aspirant said .
He also promised that his government would give the needed attention to Western and Islamic education , health care and agriculture , adding that he would resuscitate the Lake Chad Basin project in order to boost agriculture and create jobs in the area .
