DAVIDO’S TOGOLESE BOY EMERGES BEST IN AFRICA
One would expect that a search with endless perimeters and unlimited funds and resources would’ve been what Davido would put in to eventually find a worthy beat maker and music producer to see to the hits which is very essential to keep the business going in their favor especially in an industry which can be easily dominated by a totally different company or sect overnight given the slightest slip off. In Nigeria today, the instrumental of a song makes up about 70% of the reasons why a song might go places and become widely acceptable, so a producer is easily the most important part of the production aspect and the eventual output of the entire process of music production.
The industry’s music production market has become a very though place where fierce competition and vigorous display of constant innovation rocks the vicinity frequently, a very fitting description for the popular saying “the survival of the fittest”. It takes a lot to stand out in an environment as tedious and condensed with creativity such as that of the circle of top producers in the west Africa’s largest state and centre of entertainment.
So what did Davido to discover Fresh or Vice Versa?
One would think all the blockades disguised in huge challenges would deter the ambition of young Bello Emmanuel Adeshina a.k.a Fresh while he equipped himself from the very tender age of six with piano skills and other musical instruments becoming an accomplished piano player – which earned him the nickname, Fresh Fingers – he was the drummer and tenor soloist in the choir at the time. This is the journey of how he came from that spot to becoming the greatest producer in Africa .
He relocated with his parents to Nigeria in the early 2000 and eventually got into the university where he finally had the freedom to express his art in his own way. His distinctive sound which was dubbed Very Disturbing Music (VDM) came to life and has since then been the acronym that forms the second part of his stage name today.
His constant progress with creative sounds lead him to meet a lot of determined and creative minds including Dremo who was actually signed at the time to A.P.G records, a record label based in Ibadan. They both become jointly productive and went hand in hand with corresponding ideas which lead the to the production of songs like Normal Levelz and OBT.
The turn around came when Dremo got acquainted with Davido’s label which automatically gave Fresh the opportunity to prove himself via a couple of productions for the team.
On the 10th of November, 2017, a much-anticipated single titled FIA by Davido and produced by Fresh himself was released, it was no doubt a hit debuting at No. 38 on the ITunes USA pop charts and racking up over 20 million YouTube views within 2 months of release; Positive reviews and constant airplay at the request of fans both locally and international went a long way to prove that Fresh truly hard the Midas touch.
He went on to leave his mark on major hits such as Mayorkun’s Yawa and Love You Tire feat. Mr Eazi and Dremo’s 1, 2 Bang featuring Davido which of course left the air in awe and constant wonder. We all knew he was headed for greatness until the award nominations started rolling in.
