Gunmen have razed another police station in Imo State on Tuesday, few hours after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and outgoing Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammed Adamu left Owerri, Imo State capital.

Osinbajo and other officials of the Federal Government, including Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola, visited the state for an assessment of the damage done during a previous attack.

It would be recalled that unknown gunmen launched attack on Imo Police Headquarters and Correctional Centre on Monday, April 5.

Over 1800 inmates were freed after the attack and some police vehicles were also razed in the incident which an unnamed official blamed on IPOB.

However, shortly after Osinbajo and other left, gunmen burnt Ehime Mbano Local Government Area Divisional Police Headquarters.

It was gathered on arrival at the station, the gunmen freed all suspects in detention before setting the Police Divisional headquarters ablaze.

According to TheCable, police officers reportedly took to their heels when the station was invaded by gunmen.

Orlando Ikeokwu, Imo police spokesperson, was yet to confirm the incident to newsmen.

Meanwhile,  Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) earlier said 1,844 inmates escaped from custody, while the police accused members of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) of being behind the attacks.

Frank Mba, police spokesman, expressed;

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the attackers, who came in their numbers with sophisticated weapons such as General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), Sub-Machine Guns (SMGs), AK49 rifles, Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), are members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network (ESN).
