Ondo: 24-Year-Old Man Arraigned For Allegedly Raping 50-Year-Old Woman

A 24-year-old farmer, Haruna Mohammed, has been arraigned before a magistrate’s court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, for allegedly raping a 50-year-old woman, Ibukun Akinlo.

He allegedly committed the offence on July 8, 2020 along Lalepa/Akinfosile road at Igbotako area of Ondo State.

Mohammed was arraigned before the court by the police in the state on a one count charge of rape.

Police prosecutor, Mr Augustine Omhenimhen, said the offence of Mohammed is punishable under section 358 of the Criminal Code CAP 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

He asked the court to remand the accused person in custody pending legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).

However, the plea of Mohammed was not taken in the court.

In her ruling, the Presiding Magistrate, Rasheedat Yakubu, remanded Mohammed in custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) pending legal advice from the DPP before adjourning the case.
