The sensational artist who has conquered London is on a journey to conquer Nigeria through Lagos. Read excerpts from his interview with Prob-1 below.

What first got you into music?
I got into music when my primary school music teacher made it a habit of picking me and my best friend to be backup singers. He obviously saw something in me which I didn’t see at the time and thank God he did because I really enjoyed it and always looked forward to music classes.

Who inspired you to make music?
The very first person who inspired me to make music was Michael Jackson. I can remember hearing one of his songs for the first time and just putting it on repeat for the whole day and feeling like I wanted to sing just like him. That song was ‘The Way you Make me Feel’.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

I really like creating music that is energetic and which moves people to want to shake body even if they are not having a good day. But having said that I also enjoy making medium to slow tempo jams to just calm things down a bit, you know, something you can vibe to whilst working, or cleaning the house, or cruising in your car. I also like to show my romantic side to the ladies by giving them some slow jams.

What is your creative process like?
Most of my songs start with when I create the beat or hear a beat. So although I write some lyrics in advance I don’t do so very often. I prefer to let the lyric marry the beat especially when I am doing my street vibes. I hear a beat and I think to myself ‘ah omo na you come find me oh so ah go hammer you well well with lyrics’. That’s how I usually get my bangers.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?
To be honest this answer would sound somehow because of the kind of vibes I have. I have a few but to cut the list short I would say Cardi B female and for male Travis Scott. Both of them have [bad ass] [mad] lyrics and [bad ass] [mad] energy on stage.

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?
Without a doubt, it would be Drake mad fans, crazy turn up, raise the roof sold out shows.

What is one message you would give to your fans?
Damibliz: Believe in yourself and in whatever you are doing, keep trying even when it’s hard because there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Prob-1: What is the most useless talent you have?
Clapping with my ears

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?
Laughs…. everyone does now. Ok yes I do and the song depends on the mood I’m in but 9 times out of 10 it’s a Michael Jackson song.

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?
I would say playing football because I love playing football and had I not put all my heart into singing I would have done so with football and trust me I will be like Ronaldo on the pitch.

Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?
I have performed in the O2 Arena, O2 Islington, big and small comedy shows, and nightclubs. My favorite is the O2 because it’s huge and the crowd vibe always gingers me. I know I’m gonna get in trouble for this but my least favorite is small comedy shows because nobody is safe they can see all of us, artists oh, crowd oh and they can pick on all of us.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
The internet has helped a lot of people massively. It has made it very easy to reach a wide audience in record-breaking time no need to wait for cassette or cd or DVD. You can just stream. It has changed some people’s lives were just one viral video has led to stardom.

What is your favorite song to perform?
Ah omo that’s a difficult question oh. I have actually got a lot of bangers that I like to perform but if I was forced to pick it would have to be Jowabayi… all di way from Peckham Iyayin… are you paying fam.

Which famous musicians do you admire?
Swae Lee, he has grown massively and I just admire his music and style.

What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?
You don’t want to know… but let me just say avoid pretty women with size 3 feet and size 10 and 1/2 waist.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?
The best advice I’ve had from someone very dear to me is “Don’t think about it, just start and the rest will work itself out. If you don’t start you cannot finish, once start you can only finish”.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
This is a difficult one but if I really could change something, it would be to make it easier for upcoming artists to get their music heard.

What’s next for you?
Damibliz: Looking forward to dropping my album, doing my first headline show, and collaborating with artists within Africa and worldwide.
