
2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day: Sanwo-Olu Gifts ₦100 Million, Houses and Other Support to Nigerian Legion
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a ₦100 million donation, alongside housing support and other welfare packages, to members of the Nigerian Legion as part of activities marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The governor made the announcement during the annual remembrance ceremony held in Lagos to honour fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price in service to Nigeria. According to Sanwo-Olu, the gesture is aimed at appreciating the sacrifices of veterans and ensuring improved welfare for ex-servicemen and their families.
In addition to the ₦100 million financial support, the Lagos State Government pledged housing units and other forms of assistance, reinforcing its commitment to the wellbeing of members of the Nigerian Legion. Sanwo-Olu described the initiative as a moral responsibility, noting that veterans deserve continuous support long after active service.
He further emphasised that Armed Forces Remembrance Day serves as a reminder of the courage, discipline and patriotism displayed by Nigeria’s military personnel, urging citizens to uphold the values for which the fallen heroes stood.
Representatives of the Nigerian Legion expressed gratitude for the gesture, describing it as a significant boost to morale and welfare. The event featured wreath-laying, prayers and tributes in honour of Nigeria’s fallen soldiers.
