NUPENG, IPMAN Suspend Strike After Agreement With Dangote Refinery

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) have announced the suspension of their planned strike action after reaching a last-minute agreement with Dangote Refinery.

Both unions had earlier threatened an industrial action that could have crippled fuel distribution nationwide, citing concerns over pricing structures, supply chain bottlenecks, and the need for fair operational terms with the newly commissioned refinery.

Following a high-level meeting, stakeholders confirmed that Dangote Refinery agreed to review key demands raised by the unions, ensuring smoother collaboration between marketers and refinery operators.

The suspension of the strike comes as a huge relief to Nigerians, many of whom feared fuel scarcity and further economic hardship if the action had gone ahead.

NUPENG and IPMAN leaders assured members that they will continue to monitor the implementation of the agreement while keeping the option of industrial action open if commitments are not honored.

This development marks a critical turning point in the relationship between oil marketers and Dangote Refinery, as the facility gradually takes center stage in Nigeria’s petroleum supply and pricing dynamics.
