Ex-BBNaija Star Adekunle Alleges He Was Held Hostage by Police for Eight Hours
Former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) reality star Adekunle has alleged that he was held hostage by the Nigerian police for eight hours, an experience he described as both traumatic and frustrating. The ex-housemate took to social media to share his ordeal, recounting how what was supposed to be a routine stop turned into an unjust and distressing encounter.
According to Adekunle, the incident occurred while he was on his way to an event in Lagos. He claimed that the officers stopped his vehicle for a supposed search but later refused to let him go, keeping him and his team waiting for several hours without explanation. “I was held for over eight hours without any valid reason. It felt like harassment and an abuse of power,” Adekunle stated.
His revelation has since sparked heated discussions online, with fans, civil rights advocates, and fellow celebrities calling for greater accountability within the Nigerian Police Force. Many social media users condemned the incident, describing it as another example of the harassment and extortion that young Nigerians, especially entertainers, frequently face.
Adekunle, who rose to fame through the BBNaija “Level Up” season, emphasized that the experience left him questioning how ordinary citizens cope with such situations daily. “If this could happen to me as a public figure, I can only imagine what happens to others who don’t have a platform to speak up,” he added.
His post has since gained traction on X (formerly Twitter), with hashtags like #JusticeForAdekunle and #EndPoliceHarassment trending as fans rally for reform and respect for citizens’ rights. The Nigerian Police have yet to issue an official statement regarding Adekunle’s allegations.
