Next Awujale: KWAM1 Laments Exclusion as Fusengbuwa Resumes Nomination Process
Renowned Fuji music legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM1) has publicly voiced his displeasure over what he described as his exclusion from the ongoing nomination process for the next Awujale of Ijebuland, following the resumption of the exercise by the Fusengbuwa ruling family.
KWAM1, who is a prominent prince from the Fusengbuwa lineage, lamented that he was neither consulted nor informed as deliberations commenced to select a successor to the revered Awujale stool. His comments have since sparked conversations across Ijebu land and on social media, with many debating tradition, eligibility, and transparency in the selection process.
According to sources familiar with palace customs, the Fusengbuwa ruling house recently reconvened to begin internal consultations and screenings of potential candidates, in line with long-standing Ijebu traditional practices. However, KWAM1’s remarks suggest that not all eligible princes feel adequately represented or carried along in the process.
The Fuji maestro’s reaction has drawn mixed responses, with supporters insisting his royal lineage grants him a voice in the matter, while others maintain that cultural protocols and council decisions must be respected regardless of social status or fame.
