Apple Is Turning Siri Into a Full-Blown AI Chatbot
Apple is planning a major overhaul of Siri, moving it beyond simple voice commands into a true conversational AI assistant that works more like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. The next-generation Siri, reportedly codenamed Campos, is expected to debut in iOS 27 (later in 2026) and will be built directly into iPhones, iPads, and Macs. It should be capable of natural back-and-forth conversations, complex web search, image generation, file analysis, coding help, summaries, and more pushing it far beyond the current Siri’s “simple questions and tasks” model.
This Siri chatbot will integrate deeply with Apple apps like Photos, Mail, Messages, Music, and TV so it can understand and act on content in your apps. Apple is also working on allowing the chatbot to see open windows and screen content and adjust device settings meaning it could help with real tasks instead of just giving static answers. Some parts of this capability rely on powerful AI models believed to be developed in partnership with Google’s Gemini team, though how much processing happens on Apple’s own servers versus external infrastructure is still under discussion.
Siri Will Work by Voice or Text — With Deep Integration
The upcoming Siri chatbot won’t just respond to “Hey Siri” voice prompts; you’ll be able to type questions or commands too. This dual-mode interaction makes it more flexible for users who prefer typing in certain situations (like quiet public spaces). It’s expected to be the headline AI feature in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, with earlier Siri improvements previewed in intermediate updates like iOS 26.4.
Unlike previous Siri versions, the new chatbot isn’t just reactive; it will support multi-step tasks, contextual understanding, and potentially real-time adjustments on your device based on what’s happening on screen. Apple may limit how much the chatbot “remembers” about past conversations in order to protect user privacy.
Apple’s AI Pin: A Wearable to Run Siri Everywhere
In addition to the Siri chatbot, Apple is reportedly developing a wearable AI Pin a small, AirTag-sized device that could launch as early as 2027. This AI Pin is said to run the new Siri chatbot independently meaning you could ask questions and get AI responses without pulling out your iPhone.
Here’s what current leaks suggest about the AI Pin’s design and features:
- Size & build: Circular, flat, and about the size of an AirTag, with aluminum and glass materials.
- Cameras: Two lenses (standard + wide-angle) to capture photos and videos of your surroundings.
- Audio: Three microphones for sound pickup and a built-in speaker for answers or alerts.
- Controls: A physical side button for quick access, and wireless charging similar to the Apple Watch.
- It may attach to clothing or accessories, though the exact mounting method is not yet clear.
Apple’s move into an AI wearable puts it in line with a new category of AI-focused devices though early market efforts from others (like Humane’s AI pin) met mixed results. Still, Apple’s version is expected to be more polished and tightly integrated with its AI ecosystem.
