Gospel Singer Taiwo of Adegbodu Twins Dies at 46
Legendary gospel singer Taiwo Adegbodu, one-half of the celebrated Adegbodu Twins duo, has passed away, shocking fans and the Nigerian music industry. His death was confirmed on Sunday, March 1, 2026, through an emotional announcement posted on the group’s official social media pages.
The heartfelt message — reportedly written by his twin brother and music partner, Kehinde Adegbodu — expressed deep grief and disbelief at the sudden loss, leaving many in mourning. “TAIWO, why will you leave me and your kids without notification? My heart is bleeding, Lord… this is too much for me to bear!” read the tribute shared online.
Taiwo rose to prominence alongside his identical twin brother Kehinde after the release of their 1999 debut album Faratimi (Lean on Me), which helped establish the duo as influential voices in Yoruba gospel music. Over the years, their harmonious blend and spiritually uplifting lyrics won them a loyal following across churches, worship events, and Christian gatherings in Nigeria and beyond.
The Adegbodu Twins were known for captivating tracks that seamlessly fused gospel messages with traditional Yoruba rhythms. Some of their most beloved songs include Shower Your Blessing, God Concert, Emi Mimo, Igbagbo Dun, Ma Beru and Adura Mi Gba.
In recognition of their impact on music and culture, Taiwo and Kehinde were appointed Special Advisers on Entertainment and Tourism by the Osun State government — a testament to their influence beyond just music.
News of Taiwo’s passing elicited an outpouring of grief from fans and fellow gospel artists. Fellow singer Esther Igbekele confirmed the sad news through social media, remembering Taiwo affectionately and acknowledging the profound loss felt within the Christian music community.
At the time of reporting, the cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, and details regarding funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
