Nigerian Navy Stops Pirates From Abducting 16 Passengers On Ibaka–Bakassi Waterway

The Nigerian Navy has successfully prevented a pirate attack along the Ibaka–Bakassi waterway, stopping the attempted abduction of 16 passengers traveling along the busy maritime route.

According to security sources, naval personnel responded swiftly after receiving intelligence about suspicious movements on the waterway. The pirates were reportedly attempting to intercept a passenger boat operating between the coastal communities when naval officers intervened.

The navy quickly deployed patrol teams to the area, forcing the pirates to abandon their attempt. The intervention ensured that all passengers on board the vessel were rescued without harm.

Authorities noted that the timely operation prevented what could have turned into another kidnapping incident along the coastal corridor.

The Bakassi Peninsula and surrounding waterways have occasionally experienced cases of piracy, armed robbery, and kidnappings targeting fishermen and travelers.

Security agencies have intensified patrols in recent months to curb criminal activities and ensure the safety of residents and commuters who rely on the route for transportation and trade.

The Nigerian Armed Forces said surveillance and patrol operations across the waterways will continue as part of broader efforts to tackle maritime crimes in the region.

Officials also urged residents and boat operators to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies to help prevent future attacks.
