Achraf Hakimi to Stand Trial Over Rape Allegation in France
Achraf Hakimi, the Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco defender, is set to stand trial in France after an appeals court upheld a decision to refer the case to a criminal court over a rape allegation dating back to 2023. Hakimi has consistently denied the accusation.
According to court documents and media reports, the case stems from allegations made by a 24-year-old woman who claimed she was sexually assaulted at Hakimi’s home in a Paris suburb in February 2023. French judicial authorities have determined that there is sufficient evidence for the matter to proceed to trial.
Hakimi has rejected the allegation and maintains his innocence. Following the court’s decision, the Morocco international stated that he welcomed the opportunity to present his side of the story during the trial process.
His legal team has also challenged the accusations, arguing that the evidence does not support the claim and questioning aspects of the complainant’s account. Prosecutors, however, have maintained that the case should be heard in court.
The development comes as Hakimi remains one of Morocco’s most influential players and a key figure for both his national team and club side. Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, no trial date has yet been announced.
The case has attracted significant international attention due to Hakimi’s status as one of football’s most recognizable defenders. Legal experts note that the court’s decision to proceed to trial does not constitute a finding of guilt, and the outcome will ultimately be determined through the judicial process.
As proceedings continue, both the prosecution and defense are expected to present their evidence before the French court in the coming months.
