Fabrizio Romano drops big Dean Huijsen transfer update as Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal circle
Real Madrid are on the verge of securing the signature of 20-year-old Spanish centre-back Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, outpacing Premier League giants Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal in the race for the highly sought-after defender.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Real Madrid and Bournemouth have reached a club-to-club agreement, with the Spanish club set to pay Huijsen’s £50 million release clause in three instalments by the end of 2026. The final step involves agreeing personal terms with the player, who has expressed a strong desire to join the La Liga giants.
Huijsen’s preference for Real Madrid is influenced by the club’s history and the prospect of working under incoming manager Xabi Alonso, who has identified the young defender as a key component in his plans. Alonso’s direct communication with Huijsen has played a significant role in swaying the player’s decision.
Despite interest from Premier League clubs, Huijsen’s admiration for Real Madrid has been evident. He previously stated, “It’s an honour when you hear about Real Madrid interest, I’m proud to have such a big club interested in me – it’s special for sure.”
Huijsen’s journey to this point has been marked by rapid progression. After starting his youth career at Costa Unida CF de Marbella and Málaga, he joined Juventus in 2021, where he advanced through the ranks to make his Serie A debut in October 2023. A loan spell at Roma in early 2024 further showcased his potential, leading to a permanent move to Bournemouth in July 2024 for €15.2 million.
In his debut Premier League season with Bournemouth, Huijsen made 30 league appearances, scored three goals, and earned his first senior cap for Spain in March 2025.
Real Madrid’s acquisition of Huijsen aligns with their strategy of investing in young talent to build a formidable squad for the future. The club aims to finalize the transfer before the Club World Cup commences on June 15, ensuring Huijsen’s availability for the tournament.
As the deal nears completion, Huijsen is poised to join a distinguished list of players who have made the transition from the Premier League to Real Madrid, further enhancing the club’s defensive options and long-term prospects.
