According to afrobeat pioneer Seun Kuti, troubled US recording magnate Sean “Diddy” Combs popularized Speed Darlington. After being arrested for implying that Burna Boy had a relationship with Diddy in order to get a Grammy award, Speed Darlington is still in detention. During an Instagram live session, Seun Kuti responded to fan comments by distancing himself from the conflict among his fellow Nigerian musicians. According to Kuti, Burna Boy does not automatically consider him to be his advisor just because he gives him diamond jewelry.
He went on to say that Diddy’s repost of his song “Bangdadang” helped make Darlington famous. I’m not Burna Boy & Speed Darlington’s close advisor just because I bought a diamond from him, so don’t bring me into this. Diddy even helped popularize Speed Darlington. He popularized “Bangdadang” by reposting the song. Diddy reposted a song by Speed Darlington, but he never posted any of my many tracks, Kuti said.
