After a purported altercation with Edo police, the former NLC chair collapses and passes away.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder of Comrade Kaduna Eboigbodin, a former Chairman of the NLC, at a police checkpoint in Benin City has been ordered by the Edo police command.
According to SP Moses Yamu, the command spokesperson, Umoru P. Ozigi, the commissioner of police, issued the directive on Wednesday.
According to sources, the event happened on Monday in Benin City while Eboigbodin and his spouse were traveling down Upper Sakponba Road.
A source claims that after stopping Eboigbodin, the police asked for the details of his car, which he gave.
However, the source claimed that a disagreement in the documents led to a furious dispute since the police allegedly suspected him of operating a stolen car.
According to the source, Eboigbodin allegedly resisted the policemen’s instruction to drive to their station and demanded to know what his offense was.
Arguments broke out, and Eboigbodin, who was now furious, threw himself on the ground.
Eboigbodin’s wife had to take him to the hospital, where he was declared dead, after the police officers reportedly left the scene.
According to the command spokesman, news of the passing of Eboigbodin, the former chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Edo, was received with profound concern by the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Police.
According to CP Ozigi, who was quoted by Yamu, the police would look into any unprofessional behavior related to the incident.
Iyamu claims that the CP wants to use this platform to offer condolences for the deceased’s passing to his widow, family, friends, and acquaintances, as well as to offer prayers for his eternal rest.
“The CP has directed the prompt investigation into the event after noting the friendly working relationship between the Police, Civil Society Organizations, NLC, and all important stakeholders in the state.
