After Manchester United agrees to leave, Jadon Sancho completes his late loan move to Chelsea.
With the use of a contract document that allowed them to stay in two hours past the transfer deadline, Blues are believed to have finished the transaction on time.
Jadon Sancho has joined Chelsea on a loan from Manchester United after the two teams came to an agreement late on the day of the transfer deadline and were able to finalize the transaction with the aid of a deal sheet.
The agreement, which was finalized prior to the two-hour extension that allowed them until 1am BST on Saturday morning, is thought to include a commitment to make the transfer permanent the following summer for a cost of about £25 million, provided certain requirements are satisfied. This would put an end to Sancho’s trying time at Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old cost £73 million to join United from Bundesliga powerhouse Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021, but he hasn’t been able to consistently show off his best play since and has been dropped from the England team.
Sancho, a former player for Manchester City, had a falling out with manager Erik ten Hag last season. He returned to Dortmund on loan for the second half of the season, but in the summer, following a meeting with the Dutchman, he resumed training at United.
Despite playing in summer friendlies and making a late substitution against City in the Community Shield at Wembley earlier this month, Sancho has not appeared in either of United’s first two Premier League games.
Despite adding Pedro Neto and Joao Felix this summer to their roster of attacking players—Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk, Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, and Marc Guiu—Chelsea has moved to sign the winger.
After completing another late transfer on deadline day, Raheem Sterling has now joined Arsenal on a loan with no buyout option.
