After visiting Galatasaray, Mikel Obi provides an update on Victor Osimhen’s transfer

As a summer transfer looms, former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has disclosed Victor Osimhen’s position on his future.

After attempting to push a move and being linked to Chelsea last summer, Osimhen ended up in deep water with Napoli. Eventually, he signed a season-long loan to Galatasaray.

The 25-year-old attacker has played in 24 games for Okan Buruk’s team across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and dishing out five assists despite joining the Turkish team.

In an attempt to persuade the striker to join the Stamford Bridge when the summer transfer window opens, Ikel, who is good friends with Osimhen, paid the 2023 CAF Player of the Year winner a visit in Istanbul.

“Seeing these men and learning how they’re doing is always a pleasure. Naturally, Victor has relocated to Galatasaray and is doing what he does best—scoring goals. I’m still attempting to get him to try to attend the club, but it’s good to see how he’s settling him. During the Obi One Podcast, the 2012 UEFA Champions League winner stated, “I’m trying to push my buttons and see if we can get things done, hopefully, we never know.”

The January transfer window saw Alvaro Morata join Galatasaray. The Spanish forward’s time at Chelsea didn’t work out well for the winner of EURO 2024.
In the summer of 2017, the Blues paid £60 million to Real Madrid to sign Morata, but he ultimately finished with 24 goals and six assists in 72 games across all competitions.

Mikel is confident that Osimhen’s decision this summer won’t be influenced by Morata’s dismal stint in London because they are now comrades.
“Morata didn’t have a fantastic night at the club, but Victor is undoubtedly a smart guy and understands what’s best for him. He has publicly stated that he wants to play for Chelsea, which has always been his club and his childhood club.

Didier Drogba is his idol; he plays similarly to him, adopting his positions, and he adores his style of play. He obviously wants Chelsea, but we were unable to finalize the transaction in the summer. Although it’s not entirely closed, let’s wait and see what occurs when the transfer window opens this summer,” the 2013 AFCON winner concluded.

When the summer transfer market opens, Chelsea wants to let go of Christopher Nkunku in order to get a well-known striker in order to contend for championships the following season.
