Alleged Corruption: EFCC Not Witch-Hunting Malami, Opposition Politicians — Olukayode
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has dismissed allegations that the anti-graft agency is witch-hunting former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami (SAN) or targeting opposition politicians under the guise of corruption investigations.
Speaking amid growing public debate, Olukoyede stressed that the EFCC’s actions are strictly guided by intelligence, petitions, and verifiable evidence, rather than political affiliations or personal vendettas. He maintained that the commission remains committed to its constitutional mandate of tackling financial crimes without fear or favour.
According to the EFCC boss, individuals currently under investigation, including high-profile political figures, are being scrutinised based on credible allegations of corruption and financial misconduct, adding that no Nigerian is above the law.
Olukoyede also warned against attempts to politicise the agency’s work, noting that such narratives undermine the fight against corruption and erode public trust. He reiterated that the EFCC would continue to follow due process while allowing the courts to determine the outcome of cases brought before them.
The clarification comes amid reactions from political groups and supporters who have accused the government of selectively enforcing anti-corruption laws. However, the EFCC insists that its operations are transparent, professional, and consistent with the rule of law.
