Army Rescues 18 Passengers from Sea Pirates on Cameroon Waterways
Troops of the Cameroonian Army have successfully rescued 18 passengers following an attack by suspected sea pirates on waterways in the country, security sources have confirmed.
The rescue operation was carried out after security forces received distress information about an ongoing pirate attack on a passenger vessel navigating the affected route. Army personnel swiftly mobilised to the scene, engaging the attackers and forcing them to retreat.
According to reports, the passengers were freed unharmed, while the pirates fled the area upon the arrival of the troops. Security operatives later escorted the rescued individuals to safety as normalcy gradually returned to the waterways.
Authorities say the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat maritime crime, piracy, and illegal activities along Cameroon’s inland and coastal waterways, which have witnessed periodic attacks on fishermen and commercial boats.
Military officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining security and protecting lives and property, warning criminal elements that the armed forces remain vigilant and ready to respond to threats across the country’s waterways.
