ASUU Accuses Federal Government of Deception Over N2.3bn Claim, Says Universities Yet to Receive Funds

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has accused the Federal Government of deception regarding its recent claim of releasing N2.3 billion to universities across the country. According to the union, no institution has received the said funds, contrary to the government’s public announcement, which suggested that the allocation had already been disbursed to improve infrastructure and research development.

In a statement issued by the ASUU President, the union described the government’s claims as “another attempt to mislead Nigerians and downplay the financial neglect of the education sector.” ASUU maintained that university workers continue to face challenges, including unpaid allowances and poor working conditions, despite repeated promises from the authorities.

The union urged the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance to provide transparent details on the disbursement process and to prioritize the proper funding of public universities. ASUU reiterated its commitment to holding the government accountable while emphasizing that meaningful reform in the education sector can only be achieved through sincerity and consistent funding.
