Ayra Starr wins “Best International Act” and “Best African Music Act” at the 2025 MOBO Awards.
During Wednesday’s 2025 MOBO Awards in Newcastle, UK, Nigerian artist Ayra Starr took home two significant honors.
Starr became the first African woman to win the MOBO Awards’ “Best International Act” category, which honors “music of Black origin.” In addition, she became the first female winner of the “Best African Music Act” award in sixteen years.
Another winner was the Nigerian-British rapper Darkoo, who took home the title of “Best Female Act,” and Central Cee, who took home the title of “Best Male Act.” The well-known podcast 90s Baby Show took home the title of “Best Media Personality,” while Odeal, a singer from Nigeria, was voted “Best Newcomer.”
