Barcelona Vice-President Resigns Over Disagreement On New Signings
Barcelona vice president, Jordi Mestre, has resigned from his role at the club due to “strong discrepancies” with other members of the board, Sport reports.
Mestre took the decision after a meeting on Wednesday afternoon at the club with Javier Bordas, Xavier Vilajoana and Silvio Elías.
It is believed there was disagreements at the meeting over signings and the decisions taken by sporting director Pep Segura.
Mestre has always strongly supported Segura.
The resignation could cause an internal crisis among the board, because Mestre was president Josep Maria Bartomeu’s right-hand man.
Barça have already brought in Frenkie de Jong this summer and are eyeing deals for both Neymar and Antoine Griezmann.
Mestre joined the board in 2010 under Sandro Rosell and has remained with the club through Bartomeu’s presidency.
