Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Saturday ordered with immediate effect, the re-opening of Bodija market in Ibadan, the state capital.
The market, DAILY POST recalled, was closed on Thursday afternoon after a clash reported to have claimed about six lives occurred between butchers and men of the Oyo State Police command Thursday morning.
Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun who announced the reopening of the market via a statement emailed to DAILY POST, explained that the decision was taken after due consultation with security agencies and all the stakeholders of the market.
He assured that adequate security measures have been put in place by the government to forestall any crisis and ensure that people go about their normal businesses.
Arulogun, in the statement, noted that the government will not hesitate to close the market for unhygienic and unsanitary conditions as well as violent and chaotic conducts including such acts that may threaten the security of not just the market but the entire state.
He urged the people to go about their normal businesses, praying that God will comfort the families of the victims of Thursday’s mayhem and grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.
