Bukky Wright: my kids pushed me back to acting

Veteran actress Bukky Wright, who recently made a comeback to the movie industry after a long hiatus, has revealed how her children played a crucial role in her return to acting. The mother of two, who relocated to the United States over a decade ago, shared that her children not only encouraged her to resume her career but also provided financial support to facilitate her return. Wright, known for her diverse roles in Nollywood, put her acting career on hold in 2008 to explore other fields while focusing on raising her children abroad. In a recent interview, she opened up about their unwavering support.

“I’m not sure if I should refer to my kids as my rock of support. They are aware that I have dedicated my entire life to them. You’ve been living for us, but now they told me, ‘Iya (Mother), it’s time to live for yourself, enjoy life, and have fun,'” she remarked. “I’m thrilled that they helped support my career with millions of dollars.”

Wright also opened up about her struggles with clinical depression while she was overseas, especially during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“COVID was when my sadness first began. It was horrifying to learn that millions of people had perished while watching the news. I still take medicine for my high blood pressure, which I still have now. I was by myself when I thought, “Perhaps someone would be with me if I were at home.” I had a lot of concerns, like, “What if you die? What happens if you contract COVID? I wouldn’t eat, but I would cook. To be honest, living overseas may be really gloomy if you’re not a strong person, she said.
