While speaking ahead of his team’s UEFA Champions League clash on Tuesday night, Barcelona legend, Andres Iniesta, backed his former manager, Luis Enrique to be a success at Chelsea.
According to Dailymail, Antonio Conte is under pressure at Stamford Bridge after a difficult second season as the Italian now face a battle to finish in the top four. And it is understood that Enrique is Roman Abramovich’s preferred choice to take the hotseat at the end of the campaign.
The Barca midfieler, Iniesta who travels to London with his team-mates this week as they prepare to take on Chelsea, said Enrique would impress if he was given the Chelsea job.
The Spain international said: ‘Enrique is an excellent coach. In Barcelona, he showed the incredible level he has reached.
‘I think he could win trophies at any club – and that includes Chelsea. It won’t be easy because Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world.
‘But when you see what Enrique developed in Barcelona, then I think it is also possible in London.
‘The Premier League is a tough competition but, for me, he is capable of managing any big English club.’
Enrique has been out of work since leaving Barcelona at the end of last season.
