Chippa United Releases 16 Players Ahead of New Season

In a bold and strategic move, FC has announced the release of 16 players from their squad as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2024/2025 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season. This decision is part of a comprehensive plan to rejuvenate the team and enhance its competitiveness in the league. The club management, led by Chairman Siviwe Mpengesi, is committed to building a stronger and more dynamic squad capable of achieving better results in the new season.

Chippa United, based in Port Elizabeth, has faced several challenges in recent seasons, struggling to maintain a consistent performance in the highly competitive PSL. The decision to release a significant number of players marks a pivotal moment for the club as it seeks to rebuild and reposition itself as a formidable contender in South African football.

Chairman Siviwe Mpengesi expressed his vision for the club’s future during a press conference at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. “We are embarking on a new journey with Chippa United. The decision to release 16 players was not taken lightly, but it is necessary for us to move forward and build a team that reflects our ambitions and aspirations. We are committed to bringing in new talent and creating a squad that can compete at the highest level,” Mpengesi stated.

The released players include a mix of long-term squad members and recent signings who have not met the club’s performance expectations. Among the notable names are goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, defenders Frederic Nsabiyumva and Riaan Hanamub, midfielders Thabiso Lebitso and Sizwe Mdlinzo, and forwards Augustine Chidi Kwem and Bienvenu Eva Nga.

The club has expressed gratitude to the departing players for their contributions and wished them well in their future endeavors. “We appreciate the efforts and dedication of all the players who are leaving us. They have been part of the Chippa United family, and we wish them success in their next chapters,” Mpengesi added.

The release of 16 players is part of a broader strategy to overhaul the squad and introduce fresh talent. The club has already begun scouting for new players who can bring energy, skill, and a winning mentality to the team. This recruitment drive is focused on identifying both local and international talents who align with the club’s vision.

Technical Director Morgan Mammila emphasized the importance of strategic recruitment. “Our goal is to build a balanced team with the right mix of experience and youth. We are looking for players who are not only talented but also fit into our playing philosophy and culture. Our scouting network is working tirelessly to find the right candidates who can help us achieve our objectives,” Mammila explained.

In addition to revamping the playing squad, Chippa United is also reviewing its coaching and technical staff. Head Coach Lehlohonolo Seema will remain at the helm, with the support of a refreshed coaching team. The club is investing in advanced training facilities and methodologies to ensure that the players receive the best possible preparation for the season.

“We have full confidence in Coach Seema and his ability to lead this team. Along with strengthening our squad, we are enhancing our training programs and facilities to provide the best environment for our players to thrive,” Mammila stated.

Chippa United recognizes the vital role of its supporters and the local community in the club’s success. The club is planning several initiatives to engage with fans and build a stronger connection with the community. This includes fan meet-and-greet events, community outreach programs, and enhanced communication through digital platforms.

“We understand the importance of our fans and the community. Their support is invaluable, and we want to make them proud. We are committed to creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere both on and off the pitch,” Mpengesi said.

The decision to release 16 players marks a significant turning point for Chippa United as the club prepares for the 2024/2025 PSL season. With a clear vision and strategic plan in place, Chippa United is poised to build a stronger, more competitive team. The club’s management is dedicated to making the necessary changes to achieve better results and bring success to the loyal fans of Chippa United.
