Court Bars Police from Arresting OAP Nedu over ₦83m Contract Dispute
The Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an order restraining the Nigeria Police Force from arresting or detaining popular on-air personality Nedu Wazobia in relation to an ₦83 million contract dispute.
According to court filings, Nedu was dragged into a contractual disagreement involving a business deal worth ₦83 million. However, his legal team argued that the matter was purely civil and did not warrant criminal investigation or harassment by law enforcement.
Justice of the Federal High Court ruled in favour of Nedu, stressing that the police must refrain from using intimidation or unlawful arrest in cases that should be settled through civil litigation. The judge noted that while disputes of this nature can be contentious, they should be addressed within the framework of the law rather than through intimidation.
The ruling has since generated discussions on social media, with fans and media observers commending the court for protecting individual rights against misuse of police authority. Many have also highlighted how Nigerian celebrities often find themselves entangled in contractual and legal disputes due to the complexities of endorsements and partnerships.
With the court order now in place, Nedu is legally shielded from police arrest regarding the case, pending the determination of the substantive suit.
