Dangote – Mafia Tried Several Times to Sabotage $19bn Refinery
Aliko Dangote, the President and CEO of Dangote Group, has revealed that there have been multiple attempts by organized criminal groups to sabotage the $19 billion Dangote Refinery. These revelations come as the refinery nears its final stages of completion, set to significantly transform Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Speaking at a recent industry conference, Mr. Dangote detailed how these sabotage attempts have been orchestrated by mafia-like groups intent on disrupting the progress of the refinery. “We have faced several challenges, including attempts at sabotage from groups that do not want to see this project succeed,” he stated. “Despite these setbacks, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to completing this refinery, which will be a game-changer for Nigeria and the entire African continent.”
The Dangote Refinery, located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, is one of the largest industrial projects in Africa. It is designed to process 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, making it the largest single-train refinery in the world. Once operational, the refinery is expected to meet Nigeria’s domestic fuel demand, end the country’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products, and even position Nigeria as a net exporter of refined oil products.
Mr. Dangote emphasized the importance of the refinery to Nigeria’s economy, noting that it will create thousands of jobs and contribute significantly to the country’s GDP. “This project is not just a personal achievement but a national one. We are determined to see it through to completion, despite the challenges we have faced,” he added.
The Dangote Group has invested heavily in security measures to protect the refinery from further sabotage attempts. This includes deploying advanced surveillance technology and working closely with local and international security agencies.
The refinery is expected to commence operations by the end of 2024, with hopes that it will bring about a new era of economic prosperity and energy security for Nigeria.
