Davido: “Afrobeats Cannot Be Brought Up Without My Name.”
Well-renowned Nigerian musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, has discussed his priceless contributions to the afrobeats genre.
The Skelewu crooner asserts that one cannot have a conversation about Afrobeats without bringing up his name.
In the most recent edition of TheBeatJuice magazine, Davido made this statement.
“It is impossible to discuss Afrobeats without mentioning me. Unfeasible,” he declared.
Like Wizkid and Burna Boy, Davido has previously criticized Afrobeats, even though he is considered to be one of the three most popular Afrobeats performers.
Davido bemoaned the “boxing” of all African musicians into the Afrobeats genre, irrespective of their musical styles, during an appearance on an episode of the Business Untitled Podcast.
Although he stated that he would rather be called a “afro-fusion” artist, he added that the term “afrobeats” doesn’t bother him because of its influence on African music.
“When we are labeled Afrobeats, I don’t take offense. We need a genre, after all. It might be Afropop or R&B.
“I don’t really like to have ‘O put Afrofusion on my song,’ but I call my music Afrofusion.” “I am aware of the length of time it took for African music to gain popularity,” he said.
