During the summer transfer window, Mike Penders and Filip Jørgensen signed with Chelsea from KRC Genk and Villarreal, respectively.
This season, Jørgensen has been a part of Enzo Maresca’s plans, and the Blues allowed the 19-year-old to return to Genk on loan.
According to earlier reports, Chelsea paid the Belgian team over €20 million to acquire Penders. Before going back to Genk on loan, he signed a deal with Stamford Bridge that would last until 2032.
Dimitri de Condé, the head of football at Genk, was interviewed for Thursday’s Het Belang van Limburg and talked about the young player’s transfer to Chelsea.
After completing his training at the Jupiler Pro League franchise’s academy, the Belgian goalkeeper joined the main team last month. Before the Genk supporters could witness the young player excel for the team, he was traded to the Premier League team.

De Condé was asked by HBVL if he felt conflicted about Penders joining the Blues. In response, the director acknowledged that it was tough for Genk to turn down Chelsea’s offer.
He stated, “That’s why we are happy that Penders can play here for another year.”
“But it’s true that before players advance, we want to see them assist in winning prizes at Genk. However, a contract as rich as this, lasting eight years, comes with a big club and offers both financial stability and a clear career path across multiple clubs.
“You as a club cannot turn down these deals, in the player’s best interest as well as your own health.”
After returning from his loan at Genk, Penders will face fierce competition for a spot at Chelsea.
