Drake Accuses UMG of Conspiring to Make Kendrick Lamar’s Diss Track Even More Popular, Label Denies Allegations
Drake has filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group and the music company is firing back at the rapper.
In a surprising move, Drake‘s Frozen Moments LLC “accused UMG of launching an illegal ‘scheme’ involving bots, payola and other methods to boost the numbers” for Kendrick Lamar‘s diss track “Not Like Us.” UMG represents both artists.
The song was part of the two rappers’ feud and Kendrick accused Drake of pedophilia on the track.
Drake is accusing UMG of working with Spotify to further popularize “Not Like Us” by deploying bots to increase the song’s popularity and accepting lower license fees.
A reaction from the label has already been released.
It is disrespectful and untrue to imply that UMG would stop at nothing to discredit any of its artists. Our marketing and advertising initiatives utilize the most ethical techniques. The business told Variety that “no amount of fabricated and ridiculous legal arguments in this pre-action submission can obscure the fact that fans choose the music they want to hear.”
