Emeka Rollas Warns Nollywood Actors Against Using Social Media as ‘Courtrooms’
The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, has issued a strong warning to Nollywood actors, cautioning them against turning social media platforms into informal “courtrooms” for settling disputes and controversies.
Speaking amid growing concerns over public fallouts among actors online, Rollas stressed that taking grievances to social media often escalates conflicts rather than resolving them. According to him, the trend is damaging not just to individuals involved, but also to the image and integrity of the Nigerian film industry as a whole.
Rollas noted that Nollywood has established structures and internal mechanisms designed to address disputes, misconduct, and professional disagreements. He urged actors to make use of these formal channels instead of airing allegations, counter-allegations, and personal issues before the public.
“Social media trials deny all parties fair hearing and due process,” Rollas reportedly said, adding that online outrage and public opinion should never replace investigation, dialogue, or disciplinary procedures laid down by the guild.
The AGN president also warned that frequent online disputes portray Nollywood as uncoordinated and unprofessional, potentially discouraging investors, partners, and international collaborators. He encouraged actors to uphold discipline, maturity, and mutual respect, especially given Nollywood’s growing global recognition.
Rollas reaffirmed the guild’s commitment to protecting the welfare of its members while maintaining standards that promote unity and professionalism. He called on actors to remember that their conduct online reflects not just on themselves, but on the industry at large.
His remarks come at a time when social media controversies involving Nollywood personalities have become increasingly common, often sparking public outrage and divided opinions.
