Eyo Festival Showcases Nigeria’s Vast Tourism Potential — Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the historic Eyo Festival as a powerful symbol of Nigeria’s cultural depth and a major driver of the nation’s tourism potential.
Speaking on the significance of the festival, Tinubu noted that events like the Eyo Festival do more than preserve tradition — they position Nigeria as a global cultural destination. According to him, the celebration reflects Lagos’ unique history while showcasing the country’s ability to attract local and international tourists through culture and heritage.
The President emphasized that Nigeria’s diverse cultural festivals, when properly managed and promoted, can generate employment, boost small businesses, and contribute significantly to national revenue. He added that the Eyo Festival, popularly known as the Adamu Orisha Play, demonstrates how tradition can coexist with modern tourism development.
Held annually in Lagos, the Eyo Festival draws thousands of spectators, cultural enthusiasts, and tourists from across Nigeria and beyond. The iconic white-robed masquerades, traditional music, and ceremonial processions offer a rare cultural experience that distinguishes Lagos on the global tourism map.
Tinubu further urged government agencies, private investors, and cultural stakeholders to collaborate in developing infrastructure, security, and promotion strategies around major festivals.
