Fabio Cannavaro Resigns As China Coach After Just Two Matches
Former Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro has quit as head coach of the China national team after six weeks in charge, overseeing two matches.
The losses were both 1-0 defeats against Thailand and Uzbekistan in the China Cup.
Fabio Cannavaro was named head coach of the Chinese national side less than two months ago, one week before the tournament began.
The 45-year-old Cannavaro made the announcement on social media and said it was to focus on his family and his job as coach of Chinese Super League (CSL) side Guangzhou Evergrande.
“With due respect for China as a great country, I feel it’s necessary to announce my decision to give up my position as the Chinese men’s coach,” Cannavaro wrote on China’s Twitter-like Weibo.
