Femi Kuti Drops New Single “After 24 Years” and Announces Upcoming Album “Journey Through Life”
Beware of new Femi Kuti music! Yes, you heard correctly. On April 25, 2025, his new album, “Journey Through Life,” will be released. His new single, “After 24 Years,” which was written and recorded in November 2023, serves as the album’s introduction. The song criticizes the Nigerian governmental system’s ineptitude, corruption, and self-serving actions.
“After 24 years” is a summary of the last 24 years of our leadership in Nigeria (from 1999 to 2023), according to Femi. Since the 1998 publication of my song “Sorry Sorry” from the album “Shoki Shoki,” in which I declared that our warriors and politicians were one and the same,
In 1999, a new democratic era began in Nigeria. Our politicians have shown me that they are just as poor at governing as the military dictatorship, which is true to the phrase “Sorry Sorry.” Similar issues with Nigerian leadership were also covered by Femi Kuti in “Sorry Sorry,” which was published prior to the democratic era he talks about in “After 24 Years.”
“After 24 years” was written, and in November 2023, the recording was finished. Regretfully, the song is being released almost two years after it was recorded.
Regretfully, not much has changed in the time since. However, it’s crucial for historical reasons that I leave the lyrics’ and the recording’s dates unchanged because that was how I was feeling at the time. From 2023 until the release of my next album, I’m confident that my albums will always touch on issues that affect politics, society, and the entire world.
