FG Deploys 7,000 Forest Guards to Tackle Banditry Nationwide
Federal Government has announced the deployment of 7,000 forest guards as part of renewed efforts to curb banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities thriving within Nigeria’s vast forest regions.
The initiative, which forms a key pillar of the government’s security strategy, is aimed at denying criminal elements access to forest hideouts that have long served as operational bases for attacks on rural communities, highways, and farmlands.
According to officials, the forest guards will be strategically stationed across high-risk zones, working in collaboration with conventional security agencies, local vigilante groups, and intelligence units. Their primary mandate includes surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid response within forest corridors that have proven difficult for regular patrols.
