Former IG Okiro is urged by IPOB not to run for Ohanaeze Ndigbo president general.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have urged former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mike Okiro not to listen to those urging him to run in the upcoming election as the dispute over who will be the next President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo continues to heat up.

In a statement provided to reporters on Tuesday, the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, emphasized that Rivers State should take the initiative.

Additionally, he cautioned the senior statesman against paying attention to people who were pressuring him to run for office, stating that their sole goal was to disparage his moral character.

He claimed that the alleged support of Mr. Mike Okiro by an anonymous organization allegedly known as “Ogbako Egbema” for him to run for the position of next President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo has caught the interest of the noble family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), led by our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

It is clear that a few powerful people in the Imo State government are responsible for this action to disparage Mike Okiro’s character and denigrate Ohaneze Ndigbo.

“This anonymous entity is advocating on behalf of Ndigbo’s adversaries, who want to disband the Alaigbo. These individuals cannot stop Rivers State from producing the next Ohaneze Ndigbo President General.

While well-meaning organizations are actively working to unite all of ancient Igboland’s territories, from Igbanke to Isobo, others are determined to perpetuate our enemies’ stereotype that Igbo land is irretrievably divided and cannot ever be brought together for a shared political goal.

We must caution individuals spreading the rumor and supporting Mike Okiro’s candidacy for Ohaneze Ndigbo President General to refrain from interfering with the organization’s zoning system.

“Mr. Mike Okiro, the retired Inspector General of Police, should not permit himself to be utilized to undermine the unity of the Igbo people.” The Igbo people of River State are the only ones eligible to run for the position of President General. Mr. Okiro.

“Anyone or any group attempting to pressure Mike Okiro into running against Rivers State Igbos is attempting to sow discord, and IPOB will return the issue they are demanding.”

“IPOB no longer permitted politicians to influence the results of Ohaneze Ndigbo leadership. This time, Ohaneze Ndigbo must be let to function as a reputable socio-cultural organization by Igbo governors and politicians, rather than as the political wing and errand boy of the South East Governors Forum.

“IPOB will oppose any attempt to sway the results of the upcoming election in order to exclude or deny Igbos in Rivers State their just opportunity, and the people will hold those responsible accountable.” The time when Ohaneze Ndigbo was permitted to wander and serve
