A Lagos based musician and composer Raji Mutiu Okiki (Okiki Bright) has filed a suit at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, Naming Airtel network, 9 Mobile, Glo mobile as 1st, 2nd and 3rd defendants respectively, and another company MobileXcetera as 4th
Mr Okiki is demanding through his Counsel, Alayo Akanbi ESQ of ALAYO AKANBI CHAMBERS Lagos, a total sum of 500,000,000 as compensation for copyright infringement on his intellectual poperty, “Gba Gbe Boshe Sele”. And another 4000,000, as cost of suit.
The plaintiff had complained to the court that, his attention was drawn by his fans and admirers to the fact that his musical work with the above title is being used as caller tunes by the telecom companies for commercial exploit.
In his testimony, Mr Okiki said in other to confirm the information he visited the website of the companies where he confirmed his original work, “Gba Gbe Boshe Sele”.
He stated further that, he followed the download instructions where he also downloaded a copy of his work to the tune of 150 naira.
Stating further that, some of his fans used the codes 7056419 and 7166219 and were charged same amount.
He also confirmed to the court that, his popular track titled ‘Gba Gbe Boshe Sele’ was recorded by Lahlah of Smoke Da Music and the originality and ownership of the said music was confirmed by Lahlah.
In a referred letter of the 4th Defendant, MobileExcetera they had alledged that Mr. Oritsefemi Majemite Ekele and Shetade Images are Joint owners of the music ‘Gba Gbe Boshe Sele’ with Mr Okiki, but has since been denied by Mr. Oritsefemi denied.
