Harry Maguire ‘Proud’ To Collect Leicester City’s Player Of The Season Crown
Harry Maguire was the big winner at Tuesday night’s end of season awards ceremony, collecting both the Players’ Player and Player of the Season gongs.
The 25-year-old has been a regular in the Leicester City side this season following his summer move from Hull City, and admitted his achievement was a proud moment.
Maguire, a £12m capture from the Championship side a year ago, has enjoyed a fine campaign and could yet be spending his summer with the England team at the World Cup in Russia.
“Obviously I’m extremely proud,” he said. “I’m really honoured to collect these awards. I’m very lucky to have signed for such a good, well-supported club.
The chairman here is fantastic and the club hopes to progress in further years,” Maguire told LCFC TV.”
Despite mounting speculation surrounding the future of boss Claude Puel following Saturday’s 5-0 defeat at Crystal Palace, Maguire was positive about the team spirit in the City camp as the season draws to a close.
“I’ve been really lucky to come into the club. It’s a great bunch of lads there’s a great spirit,” he said. “I’ve settled in really well with the lads and the supporters have been brilliant with me ever since I joined.
It’s been a great season for myself. As a team, we want to push on next year and in the remaining three games.”
Elsewhere on the night, Wilfred Ndidi collected the Young Player of the Season crown, while Hamza Choudhury was given the Development Squad Player of the Year award, with Conor Tee named the Academy Player of the Season.
For his superb goal at West Brom in March, striker Jamie Vardy was given the Goal of the Season accolade and the Foxes impressive 4-1 win at struggling Southampton back in December was deemed to be the performance of the season by boss Puel.
