Hospital fraud: conflict between Okpebholo and Obaseki
The alleged swindle at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, owned by the Edo government and located on Sapele Road in Benin, has led to a verbal spat between Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.
Okpebholo called Obaseki’s recent inauguration of Stella Obasanjo Hospital a hoax, claiming that development was still going on and that the previous administration had not purchased the necessary equipment before hastily declaring the project finished.
He promised to fix the hospital’s structural flaws and move it to better serve the public.
According to his chief press secretary, Fred Itua, Okpebholo made the remarks during a Tuesday night hospital facility inspection with Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa and Health Commissioner Dr. Cyril Adams-Oshiomhole, who is the son of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okpebholo stated: “It is evident from examining the amenities at Stella Obasanjo Hospital that the Obaseki-led administration did nothing there; they only painted the structure and fixed the air conditioners to give the impression that the facility was finished. What Obaseki and the PDP government done is unknown to me.
