House of Reps Order IGP, DSS To SHUTDOWN Edo Assembly Immediately
The House of Representatives has ordered the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and the Director-General of the State Security Services, Yusuf Magaji Bichi to immediately shut down the Edo State House of Assembly following the lingering crisis in the state House of Assembly.
Two factions within the state House of Assembly have emerged, both laying claim to authority in the Assembly. While one faction is lotal to the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, the other faction is said to be loyal to former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomole.
The House of Representatives, last week waded into the matter with a view of resolving the crisis.
In a unanimous decision reached during plenary today July 17th, the House of Representatives, urged the state governor, Godwin Obaseki to issue a fresh proclamation within one week in line with section 105(3) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended ) for a proper inauguration of the 7th Assembly
“All Members of the Edo State House of Assembly, both those who have been inaugurated and those who have not been inaugurated should dissolve their factions in the interest of peace and stability of the House with the view to moving the State forward.
“The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Director-General (DG), Department of State Service should shut down the Edo State House of Assembly and provide adequate security to allay further fears of intimidation and threat as alleged by Members-elect,” the House recommendations read.
