‘I Didn’t Leave Nollywood Because Of Crime Roles’ – Chinedu Okeke
Veteran Nollywood actor Chinedu Okeke has cleared the air on speculations surrounding his absence from the movie scene, stating categorically that his break from Nollywood had nothing to do with his frequent portrayal of crime-related roles.
In a recent interview, Okeke addressed the rumours that his decision to step back was influenced by the typecasting of him in roles that involved criminal characters or negative portrayals. The actor, known for his compelling performances in action-packed dramas and gang-related films, emphasized that his choice was personal and not a response to public criticism or stereotyping.
“I didn’t leave Nollywood because of crime roles. That’s just what people assumed,” Okeke said. “I’ve always been passionate about acting, no matter the character. Sometimes the storyline demands it, and as professionals, we deliver what the script requires.”
The actor further explained that his time away was to explore other interests, including production and mentoring younger talents in the film industry. He revealed that he has been actively involved in behind-the-scenes projects and is working on new content that will soon hit the screens.
Chinedu Okeke also used the opportunity to appreciate his fans for their unwavering support and promised a strong comeback. “I’m not done with Nollywood,” he said. “In fact, I’m preparing for a bigger return, this time from a creative and directorial perspective.”
His remarks come at a time when many Nigerian actors are branching into various roles in the industry beyond acting. As conversations around typecasting and creative growth continue in Nollywood, Okeke’s clarification sets the record straight and underscores the evolving nature of the industry.
Fans can expect to see more from the actor in the coming months as he gears up for new productions, proving once again that talent and passion never fade.
