India and ECOWAS Deepen Their Partnership in Regional Security and Development

India and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have reiterated their dedication to enhancing their collaboration, emphasizing investment, economic growth, and regional security.
This was brought to light when Vartika Rawat, the chief of mission for the Indian High Commission to Nigeria and ECOWAS, visited Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, the president of the ECOWAS Commission, in Abuja.
The two leaders’ conversations focused on important topics including investment, commerce, and capacity building as ways to combat insecurity in West Africa. Ms. Rawat emphasized the need for closer cooperation while praising the long-standing alliance between India and ECOWAS.

 

In order to further their collaboration, she also reaffirmed their intention to formalize their relationship through a memorandum of understanding.

Echoing her thoughts, Touray expressed hope for the partnership’s future growth. He emphasized the significance of regional security and unity and urged ECOWAS’ international partners to back initiatives that promote growth and peace rather than conflict.

“We need the support of our partners to maintain harmony and peace while fostering community growth. Instead of dividing us, they should assist us come together and unite,” he said.

Jéréme Boa, the director of External Relations for the ECOWAS Commission, and Abdou Kolley, his director of Cabinet, followed Touray.

With this reaffirmed commitment, India and ECOWAS anticipate strengthening their collaboration, which would promote regional stability and economic progress.
