Iranian singer Tataloo sentenced to death for blasphemy Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, better known as Tataloo, was sentenced to death for blasphemy by an Iranian supreme court on Sunday after being found guilty of insulting the Prophet Muhammad. According to Iranian newspaper Etemad, the prosecutor’s objection to a previous five-year jail term on offences including blasphemy was accepted by the supreme court, the report added. The 37-year-old has been detained in Iran since December 2023 after being extradited from Turkey.

Tataloo had been incarcerated for five years for a number of charges, including blasphemy. However, the prosecution requested that his case be reopened, which resulted in a retrial and the imposition of the death penalty.

The report further said that the decision was subject to appeal and was not final.

Because to his extensive body tattoos and frequent candid discussions about the political and social issues facing Iran’s youth, Tataloo is one of the country’s most well-known and contentious artists.

The performer, who is renowned for fusing pop, R&B, and rap styles, has previously received sentences.

He had previously been accused of distributing “obscene content” and spreading anti-regime propaganda, and he had received a 10-year prison sentence for encouraging “prostitution.”
