
Ladoke Akintola University Honours Lere Paimo, Francis Onwochei
At the 14th Combined Special Convocation Ceremony of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in April 2022, the institution honored six distinguished Nigerians with honorary doctorate degrees in recognition of their significant contributions to society. Among the honorees were veteran actor Chief Lere Paimo, MFR, and renowned filmmaker Francis Onwochei.
Chief Lere Paimo, affectionately known as “Eda Onile Ola,” has been a stalwart in the Nigerian film industry since 1958. His illustrious career spans over six decades, during which he has made indelible marks as an actor, filmmaker, producer, and director. Paimo’s dedication to the arts and his role in promoting Yoruba culture through film and theater have earned him national and international acclaim.
Francis Onwochei, a prominent figure in Nollywood, has significantly influenced the Nigerian film landscape through his work as a producer, director, and actor. His commitment to storytelling and mentorship has nurtured a new generation of filmmakers, contributing to the industry’s growth and global recognition.
The convocation ceremony also celebrated the academic achievements of 24,704 graduates from six academic sessions, with 753 students earning First Class honors. This milestone reflects LAUTECH’s commitment to academic excellence and its role in shaping future leaders.
Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Mojeed Olaide Liasu highlighted the university’s strides in research and development, including securing significant grants and expanding academic programs. He attributed these successes to the support from the Oyo State government and the dedication of the university’s staff and students.
The event underscored LAUTECH’s dedication to honoring individuals who have made substantial contributions to society and its continuous pursuit of academic and cultural excellence.
