Lagos Government Notifies NUPENG of E-Call Up Enforcement Beginning November 10

The Lagos State Government has issued a formal notice to the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) regarding the full enforcement of the E-Call Up system beginning November 10. The initiative aims to regulate the movement of petroleum tankers, articulated vehicles, and other heavy-duty trucks within the state, particularly around Apapa and Tin Can Island ports, to significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve logistics efficiency.

According to the government, the E-Call Up system will ensure that only vehicles with approved digital scheduling access are allowed entry into port areas, thereby preventing arbitrary parking and illegal road blockages. This move follows numerous complaints about gridlocks caused by trucks waiting to load products, which have affected commuters and disrupted business operations across major highways.

Officials emphasized that full compliance by transport operators, drivers, and petroleum marketers is mandatory. NUPENG members have been urged to cooperate with the Lagos authorities to ensure smooth implementation, as defaulters may face strict penalties. The E-Call Up policy forms part of the state’s broader efforts to enhance transportation management, promote digital governance, and strengthen supply chain operations within Nigeria’s commercial hub.
