Lagos Govt Arrests 15 Street Beggars in Ikosi-Ketu During Fresh Enforcement Raid
The Lagos State Government has intensified its campaign against street begging as officials apprehended 15 beggars in the Ikosi-Ketu area during a fresh enforcement operation. The raid, carried out by the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development in collaboration with the Special Team on Social Vices, aimed to curb the growing menace of street begging and restore order across major roads.
According to the ministry, the operation became necessary following multiple complaints from residents and commuters about increasing obstruction of traffic, harassment of motorists, and safety concerns linked to street beggars in the axis. Officials noted that the government has consistently warned against street begging, stressing that it violates the state’s environmental and social protection laws.
The arrested individuals have been taken into custody for profiling and rehabilitation assessments. Authorities reiterated that street begging not only endangers the lives of beggars but also poses risks to road users. The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to providing support through social intervention programs while maintaining zero tolerance for activities that disrupt public order.
The ongoing crackdown is part of broader statewide measures aimed at ensuring a safer, cleaner, and more organised Lagos for all residents.
