Lagos State Issues Traffic Advisory Ahead of APC Primaries

In preparation for the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government primaries scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2025, the Lagos State Government has released a comprehensive traffic advisory to ensure smooth vehicular movement and minimize disruptions in the Ikeja area.

Road Closures and Alternative Routes

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced that ACME Road in Ogba, Ikeja, will be closed to vehicular traffic during the primaries. Specifically, motorists will not be able to access ACME Road from Adeniyi Jones, Lateef Jakande, and ACME Crescent ends. To mitigate the impact of these closures, the following alternative routes have been recommended:

  • Motorists coming from Adeniyi Jones are advised to link Aromire to access Allen Junction and continue their journeys.

  • Those approaching from Allen should use Aromire to connect to Ladipo Oluwole and access Guinness to reach their destinations.

  • Drivers from Akilo Road can connect to Wemco Road, link Lateef Jakande, or proceed onto Omole to complete their trips.

Mr. Osiyemi urged the public to plan their movements ahead of Saturday and avoid the ACME Road axis if they do not have urgent business in the area. He assured that officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to manage vehicular movement along the affected corridors.

APC Primaries and Party Leadership Appeals

The APC primaries are a crucial step in selecting candidates for the upcoming local government elections slated for July 12, 2025. The party has cleared 432 chairmanship aspirants out of the 470 who submitted nomination forms, with 38 aspirants either disqualified or voluntarily withdrawing from the race.

In a bid to ensure a peaceful and seamless exercise, APC leaders in Lagos State have appealed to aspirants and their supporters to embrace consensus and avoid conflicts. During a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat on ACME Road, Ogba, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among party members. He stated, “Let us do it the way we have been doing it. It is consensus. We apportion things to ourselves.”

Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Chairman of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), also highlighted the need for consensus, noting that with over 500 chairmanship aspirants, it is imperative to adopt a method that promotes harmony and reduces tension. He remarked, “Five persons cannot occupy a single seat. We should take things easy, talk to ourselves, and concede to one another.”

The Lagos State Government has assured residents of adequate security measures during the primaries. Law enforcement agencies will be on high alert to prevent any breach of peace and ensure the safety of all participants and residents in the affected areas.

Furthermore, the APC electoral committee has provided guidelines to ensure a credible and transparent primary process. The chairmanship primaries will be conducted through indirect polls at the party’s secretariat, while councilor aspirants’ polls will take place across the wards of the 57 councils on the same day.

Residents and motorists are advised to stay informed about the traffic changes and plan their routes accordingly. Those without essential business in the ACME Road area are encouraged to avoid the vicinity to reduce congestion and facilitate the smooth conduct of the primaries. The Lagos State Government remains committed to ensuring the success of the APC primaries and the overall safety and convenience of its citizens. Continuous updates will be provided through official channels as the situation evolves.
