Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain has officially joined Manchester United for a cost of €50 million, with a further €10 million in add-on conditions.
The 23-year-old midfielder for Uruguay’s national team has agreed to a 5-year contract that expires in the summer of 2029, with a one-year extension option.
Throughout the summer, Ugarte was the club’s top midfield target; they were patient, though, and on the final day of the transfer window, they signed him.
Although Ugarte has averaged the second-most tackles per ninety minutes of any player in European football’s major leagues since the beginning of the 2022–2023 season, United is proud of the midfielder’s tremendous potential, energy, athleticism, and ability to move around the pitch.
Ugarte started his professional career with Fenix in Uruguay before traveling to Europe in December 2020 to play for Sporting Lisbon and Famalicao in Portugal. He later joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2023, where he played 37 games and won the league and cup in his last season.
“Joining a club of this caliber—one that is respected globally—is an amazing feeling,” Ugarte remarked. “I find this project really exciting; Manchester United is an ambitious club, and I am an ambitious player,” said the football leadership.
“I am really interested in the fervor of supporters; I am aware of how amazing United fans are, and I am eager to visit Old Trafford. I have a strong desire to succeed and will stop at nothing to support my colleagues. We will work together to elevate this club to the necessary level and win trophies.
“One of our main goals for this summer was to sign Manuel,” stated Dan Ashworth, the sporting director of United. He has a stellar record at the club and international levels and is one of the world’s top ball-winning midfield players. His skills, background, and enthusiasm will be a wonderful asset to our potent midfield bunch.
“We have been closely observing Manuel as a player, and we are eager to witness the positive influence he will have both on the field and in the locker room as we pursue more success.”
The day Ugarte came at Old Trafford, the team witnessed the departure of two players: English winger Jadon Sancho moved to Chelsea on loan with an option to buy next summer, while Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay joined Napoli.
